Change is in the Air and It's a Good Thing

Lately I have noticed myself worrying a lot. And if I'm honest, what I worry about most right now is how fast life is moving and that my baby girl is almost two - two! She is changing every day and every day seems to go faster than the next. And there is absolutely nothing I can do to slow it down.

As I was walking down the street the other day, I was suddenly struck by the awesome beauty of the changing trees around me. It dawned on me then, change can be scary, but it can also be incredibly beautiful.

So, this weekend, I am embracing the inevitable force of change in life and the joy it can bring. From apple picking to carving pumpkins and jumping in leaves, fall is a season for fun. And it's the most fun when making memories with my inquisitive and joyful toddler. Luckily, there are so many ways to celebrate fall here in Chicago and I hope you'll embrace this season of change by getting out and exploring some of these fun (and free!) fests:

Saturday, October 24
Fallapalooza in the West Loop @ Mary Bartleme Park from 10 am - 12 pm
Hosted by Soul City Church, come for games, prizes, music and of course candy! Kids, wear your best non-scary costume and you could win a prize!

Boo-Palooza in Wicker Park from 10am – 2pm
This fest features not one but two costume parades, one for families and the second for our furrier family members, with prizes!

The Halloween Gathering - an all day festival downtown on Chicago's Cultural Mile. The fest will end with a parade at 6 pm.

Halloween at the Zoo at Lincoln Park Zoo from 11 am - 2 pm
Trick or treat throughout the zoo and enjoy arts and crafts in the Kovler Lion House.

Clark Street Spooktacular in Lincoln Park 1 to 5 p.m.

Sunday, October 25th
The 11th annual Halloween parade will start at 5 pm at the Logan Square Monument, then head south down Kedzie before looping around, and ending up at Lula Cafe, 2537 N. Kedzie for warm apple cider and fresh cookies.

A multi-day fest, head to Navy Pier on October 23, 24, 25, 30 & 31 for pier-wide activities.
A special fireworks display will begin at 9:30 pm on Saturday, October 31

And speaking of change for good, the hubs and I are actually going out just us two (woo hoo!) for a costume party next weekend. I haven't dressed up for Halloween in forever. Since I cringe when I look back at what I wore as "costumes" in college, I am in major need of a fun but comfortable costume to wear. Oh how my prerogatives have changed in the last 10 years ;) If you have any clever adult couple costume ideas - please send them my way!

Happy fall, all!
