Christ's Unlimited Tolerance

Friday, June 22, 2018

Imagine if Jesus had a zero tolerance policy. We would all be screwed. Yet he never turns his back on us. He always welcomes us, with open arms. And in return, Jesus does not call us to judge, he calls us to love. To love your neighbor as yourself.

Our nation is suffering from a zero tolerance mentality. We seem to have lost the ability to tolerate any opinion, belief or behavior that does not match our own. We only see things one way, our way, and in the process, we are losing sight of what really matters. It pains me to see this, but it breaks my heart to see it in the Christian community.

We're tolerating the wrong things. How can we tolerate the horrendous actions and lies of our President, but not have tolerance for those seeking aid and shelter from suffering? The very ones Jesus calls us to help.

"Then Jesus said, 'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.'" Matthew 11:28

The very ones we say we help.

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” From the plaque on the Statue of Liberty.

We cannot lose our morality at the expense of our political party. Whether Democrat or Republican, as Christians we are called to love one another. It is the most important policy we have.

"So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples." John 13:34

How we act matters. Our love, or lack of it, will prove to the world who we are. If we say that we are followers of Jesus, we need to follow his lead. And if we pledge to be "one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" we need to act like it. Otherwise we're just a nation of hypocrites.

Jesus' representatives are out there. I have been humbled by those who have stepped up to help and provide aid to families at the border. We cannot stop helping. My faith journey has not been a bump free road. It has gone through many twists and turns, ups and downs, but through it all, God has always been there. His grace knows no bounds. He has never put up a wall to separate us. And because of this, I cannot put walls up against others. As a follower of Christ, I have been called to tear them down.
Find a March:
Participate in the Families Belong Together day of action. Protests are being held across the country on June 30th. Find a march near you.

And call your representatives.
